if it came to, that i choose to die
i suppose
i would slit my wrists
watch my veins dry
this blood is the
blood of my mother
this blood is the
blood of my son
this blood
was nourished by one
this blood
created another
if it came to, that i choose to die
i suppose
it means i didn't care
for the blood we share
won't leave behind
a lie in my wake
not for a mad moment's sake

Very thoughtful poem - makes the reader really think about life and who is affected by our life and our death
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing with One Shot
nice turn there at the end. suicide is so hard and leaves too much unsaid...and yes it is a lie..
ReplyDeleteWell-done, Padmavani.
ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons why one might "choose" to die, as current events show us now. I like the uncertainty expressed in "If it came to that" - we don't know what "that" is; your choice of word provokes much thought.
this was a powerful message padmavani
ReplyDeleteBeautifully crafted piece underscoring the complexity of such a decision.
ReplyDeleteChilling.
ReplyDeleteAs person that is chronically ill I have thought of suicide as an option every once in a while, when things get really bad. I'd just like to say, as odd as this may sound, thank you. You've reminded me of the reasons I need to be here for others. I don't know what else to say except that the last two stanzas are some of the most powerful words I have read in a long time.
ReplyDeletekeep up the good work
Moondustwriter, Brian, Maureen, Claudia, Cheryl and Janet Snell, Fireblosson and craftygeek, thank you all very much for letting me know.
ReplyDeleteCraftygeek, I am so pleased and touched that this poem resonated with you. I wish you strength and wisdom to manage your illness. Take care.
Yes, in moments like this ... one needs to connect with all that one has got within than what one has lost without.. I liked it so much.. thanks for sharing...

Woww...this was powerful, intense and sooooo true, Padmavani!!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the point you made here... and the way you have emboldened the importance of relationships and bonds that we share... our life means so much to those we care about, even if it may not mean a whole lot to ourselves!
A beautifully written One Shot, my friend..
Thank you Shashi, wise words.
ReplyDeleteKavita, couldnt have put better myself : our life means so much to those we care about, even if it may not mean a whole lot to ourselves :)
Cheers both!
